Gaddafi Stadium's Rapid Transformation Sets Stage for Champions Trophy

The iconic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore has undergone a remarkable transformation, with former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairpersons Najam Sethi and Zaka Ashraf lauding the stadium’s swift development. Both leaders praised the renovation efforts, emphasizing the rapid pace at which the improvements were completed. Sethi described the changes as “extraordinary,” recognizing the dedication of everyone involved in revamping the historic venue within a year.

Zaka Ashraf echoed similar sentiments, expressing his admiration for the efficient revitalization of the stadium’s infrastructure. “Gaddafi Stadium now stands as a modern facility, and the speed with which this was achieved is commendable,” he remarked. Their comments came just before the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, where the upgraded venue is set to host several key matches.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif officially inaugurated the newly renovated stadium in a grand ceremony, celebrating its 65-year history. The event featured performances by popular artists, including Ali Zafar, Arif Lohar, and Aima Baig, followed by a dazzling fireworks display and light show. PM Shehbaz acknowledged the hard work of the entire team, under the supervision of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, in completing the project.

The renovation includes new LED lights, two large scoreboards, upgraded seating, and hospitality facilities, along with improved player amenities. With over 10,000 new seats added, the venue is now ready to host international events, including the Champions Trophy. The Gaddafi Stadium will begin its post-renovation journey with the tri-nation ODI series on February 8.
