Iconic Friends Apartment in NYC Sells for $32.7 Million

The apartment building made famous by the hit TV show Friends has been sold for $32.7 million. The sale has once again attracted global attention from fans who connect the building with one of television’s most popular sitcoms.

The six-storey property is located at 90 Bedford Street in Manhattan’s West Village. It became widely known after appearing in exterior shots of Friends when the show first aired in 1994. While no indoor scenes were filmed there, the building’s exterior became closely linked to the fictional apartment shared by Monica, Rachel, Joey, and Chandler.

The show starred Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, and Lisa Kudrow. Over time, Friends grew into a global cultural phenomenon, turning the building into a well-known landmark. Today, tourists from around the world visit the site to see the famous location in person.

The property contains 21 residential apartments. These units range from one-bedroom homes to larger four-bedroom apartments. The building also includes ground-floor retail space, which is currently occupied by Little Owl, a popular Mediterranean restaurant that adds to the building’s appeal.

The building last changed ownership in February 2024. At that time, Wharton Properties, led by real estate investor Jeff Sutton, purchased it for $18.25 million. After the acquisition, several apartments were renovated. These upgrades helped increase the building’s value within a short period.

The latest buyer is JP Real Estate Group Limited, described as an international investment firm. The transaction was completed as an off-market deal. It was brokered by Michael Sherman of Baseline Real Estate Advisors, according to reports.

Despite strong interest from fans, living in the building remains difficult. According to StreetEasy, no apartments are currently available for rent. Demand continues due to the lasting popularity of Friends and the building’s place in television history.
