France Grants €12 Million to Support Water and Sanitation in Pakistan

The Government of Pakistan has finalized an agreement with the French Development Agency (AFD), securing a €12 million grant aimed at improving water and sanitation services. The grant, funded by the European Union and administered through AFD, marks another step in strengthening development cooperation between the two nations.

The agreement was signed by the Secretary of Economic Affairs, the French ambassador to Pakistan, and the director of AFD. According to a spokesperson from the Economic Affairs Division (EAD), the funding will be directed towards enhancing the quality of services provided by the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) in Lahore and Faisalabad.

In addition to infrastructure improvements, the project will assist in implementing a more effective regulatory framework for the Housing Department, ensuring better governance and service delivery in the water and sanitation sector.

Officials from both countries have welcomed the initiative as a meaningful collaboration that addresses urban challenges and promotes sustainable development in key Pakistani cities.
