The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted heavy rain during the early 2025 monsoon season, warning of potential flooding in Sindh, Punjab, KP, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The PMD’s seasonal outlook suggests central and southern Pakistan will receive normal to slightly above-normal rainfall. Intense early downpours could cause flash floods in both plains and hilly areas.

Northeastern Punjab and Kashmir may experience higher-than-usual rainfall, while northern KP and Gilgit-Baltistan could see average or slightly below-average rain. Heavy rains may raise river levels, and sudden temperature shifts could trigger dust storms, strong winds, and hail.

Increased temperatures in KP and Gilgit-Baltistan may accelerate glacier melt, raising river water levels. While this poses flood risks, it may also help agriculture, hydropower, and groundwater recharge.

Authorities are urged to activate emergency centers, deploy rescue teams, and coordinate with local administrations. The public is advised to avoid unnecessary travel during downpours.
