As Ramadan nears its end, Muslims prepare for Eidul-Fitr while fulfilling the obligation of Sadaqat al-Fitr (Fitrana), a charity aimed at assisting the needy and purifying one’s fast.
What is Fitrana?
Fitrana is a compulsory charity given before the Eidul-Fitr prayer. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) emphasized it as a means to cleanse fasting from shortcomings and enable the less fortunate to celebrate Eid with dignity.

Who Must Pay Fitrana?
Fitrana is mandatory for every Muslim possessing wealth equal to or exceeding 52.5 tolas of silver. It applies to men, women, children, and even dependents, including newborns before Eid. Parents must pay on behalf of their minor children.
Who Receives Fitrana?
Eligible recipients include:
- Miskin (destitute individuals)
- Faqir (those lacking basic necessities)
- Orphans and widows
- Debtors struggling with repayment
- Stranded travelers in need of assistance
Fitrana Amount and Payment Methods
The amount is based on staple food items:
- Wheat – 2.5 kg
- Barley or Dates – 5 kg
- Or an equivalent monetary donation
Fitrana Rate in Pakistan for 2025
The minimum Fitrana for 2025 is Rs. 240 per person. Fidyah (compensation for missed fasts) varies by food type:
- Wheat Flour – Rs. 240
- Barley – Rs. 700
- Premium Dates – Rs. 4,000
- High-Quality Raisins – Rs. 6,400
For those deliberately breaking a fast, Kaffara requires feeding 60 underprivileged individuals with two meals.
