Bollywood icons Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone have been booked in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, over their role as brand ambassadors for a Hyundai car model allegedly plagued with defects.
Indian media reported that six Hyundai officials were also named in the case, filed by local lawyer Kirti Singh, who purchased a Hyundai Alcazar in 2022 for INR 2.397 million.
The complainant said he was influenced by ads featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, who promoted the SUV as “reliable” and “trouble-free.” However, the vehicle soon developed serious faults, including acceleration issues on highways and repeated odometer warnings, raising safety concerns.
Despite repeated complaints, the dealership and company allegedly admitted the issue was a manufacturing defect that could not be resolved.
Following court orders, police registered an FIR against Hyundai officials along with the two Bollywood stars under charges of fraud and misleading consumers.
This is not the first time Shah Rukh Khan has faced legal trouble over advertisements. Earlier this year, he was booked in Raipur in a similar case, though the complainant was later arrested for allegedly threatening the actor after sending multiple legal notices.
