Final countrywide polio immunization drive of 2025 starts tomorrow

Pakistan’s final nationwide polio vaccination drive of the year will begin tomorrow, aiming to administer polio drops to more than 45 million children, the National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) announced.

The campaign will run from December 15 to December 21, 2025, and is a key step in safeguarding children from the crippling disease while advancing efforts to fully eradicate polio from the country.

According to the National EOC, over 400,000 polio workers will be deployed across Pakistan. These teams, comprising health workers, volunteers, and community members, will conduct door-to-door visits to ensure maximum coverage and that no child is left unvaccinated.

Punjab will vaccinate the largest number of children, with over 23 million set to receive polio drops. In Sindh, more than 16 million children will be covered, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will target over 7.2 million children. Balochistan is expected to vaccinate more than 2.6 million children. In the federal capital, Islamabad, over 460,000 children will be immunized. Gilgit-Baltistan will cover more than 228,000 children, while Azad Kashmir will aim to vaccinate around 7 million children.

The EOC emphasized that eliminating polio requires a united national effort and urged the public to fully cooperate with vaccination teams. It stressed that protecting children from polio is a shared responsibility and called on families and communities to support health workers during the campaign.

While Pakistan has made notable progress in reducing polio cases in recent years, officials warned that continued commitment is essential. The final vaccination drive of 2025 is seen as critical in sustaining progress toward a polio-free future.

Parents and guardians have been urged to ensure their children receive the vaccine and to immediately inform local health authorities if any child is missed during the campaign.
