Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz became the latest target of AI-generated content after her photo with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was altered using AI tools. The individual behind this act has now been arrested.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) apprehended Bilal Hussain in Khokhar Town, Lahore, for sharing a defamatory deepfake video involving Maryam Nawaz. The FIA’s Cyber Crime Reporting Centre led the operation.

Bilal Hussain faces charges under sections 20, 21, and 24 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), 2016, for posting the AI-altered video on his Facebook account. The video depicted Maryam Nawaz with the UAE President in a misleading manner.
Authorities seized Hussain’s Facebook account and mobile phone used to distribute the content. He is scheduled to appear in court today for physical remand.
The FIA launched this investigation as part of a broader effort to combat the misuse of artificial intelligence for harmful purposes and has vowed to bring all responsible individuals to justice.
