FBR Launches Aggressive Campaign Against Tax Non-Filers

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has initiated an intensive campaign against individuals who have not filed their tax returns, issuing notices to more than 700,000 non-filers.

This action, guided by recommendations from the IMF, aims to encourage adherence to tax regulations. The FBR, following thorough reviews of banking records and electricity bills, has sent these notices, urging individuals to promptly fulfill their tax obligations.

In a strict measure, those who do not comply risk having their mobile phone SIMs blocked after receiving the notice. The subsequent phase of the FBR’s strategy includes disconnecting electricity connections for tax defaulters.

The FBR’s overarching goal is evident: to broaden the tax base by bringing in over 1 million new taxpayers in the current fiscal year. This initiative underscores the FBR’s dedication to establishing a more extensive and inclusive landscape of tax compliance.
