The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has clarified recent amendments to the Baggage Rules, 2006, addressing confusion about the value limit for personal baggage.
FBR explained that the draft SRO 2028(I)/2024 dated December 6, 2024, had mistakenly suggested a $1,200 value limit on personal baggage, which had been misreported in the media.

The amendment specifies that the $1,200 limit applies only to goods brought in baggage for commercial purposes or trade. Personal items or gifts are excluded from this limit.
To prevent further confusion, FBR has withdrawn the draft notification, reinforcing that personal baggage exceeding $1,200 will not be confiscated.
