The federal government has approved leave for FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood from June 29 to July 6. The decision was announced through an official notification issued by the Establishment Division on June 27.
According to the notification, FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood has been granted leave on full pay. He is a BS-22 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service and currently heads the Federal Board of Revenue.
The notification also allows the FBR Chairman to travel abroad during the approved leave period. However, the government has clarified that the visit must not create any foreign exchange liability for the federal government. This means no public funds will be used for foreign exchange expenses related to the trip.
To ensure uninterrupted operations, the government has made temporary administrative arrangements. During Rashid Mahmood’s absence, Dr. Hamid Ateeq Sarwar will oversee the responsibilities of the chairman while continuing his existing duties.
Dr. Hamid Ateeq Sarwar currently serves as Member Strategic Transformation at the Federal Board of Revenue. In addition to his current portfolio, he has been assigned to manage the responsibilities of the chairman until Rashid Mahmood returns from leave.
The temporary arrangement is intended to maintain the smooth functioning of the country’s tax administration. The Federal Board of Revenue is responsible for tax collection, revenue administration, and implementing taxation policies across Pakistan. Officials said routine operations are expected to continue without disruption during the leave period.
The notification was issued by the Establishment Division on June 27. It formally outlines the duration of the leave and the interim administrative arrangements. No additional changes in the senior management of the Federal Board of Revenue have been announced.

Temporary assignments of senior officials are a common administrative practice within government institutions. These arrangements help ensure that important decisions and day-to-day operations continue while senior officeholders are away.
The approved leave will remain in effect until July 6, after which Rashid Mahmood is expected to resume his official responsibilities. Until then, Dr. Hamid Ateeq Sarwar will continue performing both his current duties and the additional responsibilities assigned to him.
The latest notification reflects the government’s effort to ensure administrative continuity within the Federal Board of Revenue. With the temporary arrangement now in place, the organization is expected to continue its regular operations throughout the leave period of the FBR Chairman.
