In a significant political move, Farrukh Khokhar, son of the late Taji Khokhar, officially joined the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) on Friday. This development stands out, given that most of his family has traditionally been associated with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
Khokhar’s decision also reflects a strategic shift within the JUI-F, as the party opens its doors to individuals from non-Pakhtoon and non-Deobandi backgrounds—marking a broader, more inclusive approach.
A ceremony was held at ‘Dera Taji Khokhar’ near Islamabad’s old airport to commemorate the occasion, with JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman in attendance. He warmly welcomed Khokhar and stated that his entry would help strengthen the party’s presence in both Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
“This move highlights the growing influence of JUI-F in the twin cities,” said Maulana Fazlur Rehman, adding that Khokhar’s support would bring further momentum to the party’s political efforts.
Reiterating his long-standing goals, Maulana Fazl emphasized JUI-F’s mission to transform Pakistan into a truly Islamic democratic state. He stressed that the party has always fought to align the Constitution with Islamic values, and consistently advocated for the preservation of religious principles on every available platform.
The Maulana warned that certain groups were attempting to undermine Pakistan’s Islamic identity, but assured supporters that such efforts would not succeed. “There will be no compromise on our ideological foundation,” he declared.
He also criticized the government over the country’s worsening economic conditions, saying inflation had made it difficult for ordinary citizens to survive. “While neighboring nations move forward, Pakistan continues to suffer from economic decline,” he added.
In his address, Farrukh Khokhar praised Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s leadership and vision, specifically pointing to his strong position on the issue of Khatm-i-Nabuwwat. Despite his family’s past political affiliation with the PPP, Khokhar said he was personally drawn to the Maulana’s unwavering dedication to Islamic values and national integrity.
“I was especially moved by Maulana’s stance on Khatm-i-Nabuwwat, and his support for the Pakistan Army during the war with India. These convictions left a lasting impression on me,” Farukh Khokhar shared.
