Incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan has received relief as he was acquitted in two cases related to the May 9 violence.

Khan, who has been in custody since August last year, was acquitted in two cases tied to the May 9 violence by District and Sessions Court Judicial Magistrate Omar Shahab. The court cited insufficient evidence while hearing the bail pleas.

Imran Khan’s counsels, Mirza Asim Beg and Naeem Panjotha, argued that the FIR was filed by an unauthorized person and lacked evidence to support the charges under Section 109.

The May 9 violence followed Imran Khan’s arrest, sparking protests across Pakistan, including remote and major cities. The unrest led to the deployment of armed forces in Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad to restore order.

During the protests, PTI workers attacked various military installations, including the Corps Commander’s house in Lahore. Imran Khan remains the main accused in all the May 9 riot cases.
