[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Three months after its January conference debut, BYD’s rugged off-roader Yangwang U8 made its Shanghai Auto Show debut. It is an Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) with a 49.05 kWh battery and a CLTC range of 180 km.
The range extender is powered by a 2.0-liter petrol engine with a 75-liter fuel tank. The tank, when combined with a fully charged battery, can provide a driving range of up to 1,000 kilometres.
According to the business, the battery can be charged from 30% to 80% in 5 minutes. The SUV contains 38 sensors for autonomous driving, including 3 lidars, 5 MW radars, 14 ultrasonic radars, and 16 cameras.
Even when there is no phone connection in the desert or mountains, satellite connectivity allows the driver to stay in touch. On the U8, drone docking is an optional feature.
On April 18, the “Premium Edition” and “Off-road Master Edition” U8 went on presale. Large roof boxes and Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) snorkels are standard on offroad variants. Its dimensions are nearly identical to those of the Land Rover Defender, and its curb weight is nearly 3.5 tonnes.
Despite its massive weight, the U8 is a lightning-fast machine. The drivetrain is 4WD, with a 220 kW electric motor driving each wheel, producing 1,180 horsepower and 1,280 Nm of torque. According to the firm, the time from 0 to 100 km/h is only 3.6 seconds.
U8 can go off-road, wade through water, and make intricate manoeuvres in a confined scenario on its own, in addition to being blisteringly fast.
The Yangwang U8 features a plush leather interior. It contains three centre console panels as well as a 70-inch augmented reality heads-up display.
