Residents of Lahore have received reassuring news ahead of the Basant festival, as the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has announced that there will be no loadshedding during the celebrations. The utility has taken extensive measures to guarantee a steady electricity supply and ensure public safety throughout the event.
LESCO officials stated that protective safety nets have been installed at key grid stations, including Shah Alam and Shahi Qila, to prevent power interruptions caused by metal kite strings coming into contact with transformers or other electrical infrastructure—a common issue in previous years. These nets are designed to maintain a continuous power supply and avoid sudden shutdowns during the festival.
To further ensure uninterrupted electricity, LESCO has set up a central control room at its headquarters. This control room will closely monitor the city’s power system throughout the Basant period, allowing the utility to respond quickly to any issues that may arise.
LESCO Chief Executive Muhammad Ramadan Butt announced that all employee leave requests have been cancelled for three days during Basant, ensuring maximum staffing for immediate problem resolution. He also assured residents that the city would not face any electricity quota restrictions and that supply would comfortably meet the increased demand during the festive days.
The LESCO chief reiterated that no part of Lahore will experience power cuts during Basant. The installation of safety nets at critical grid stations and vigilant monitoring through the control room are expected to protect infrastructure and maintain a reliable supply.
This announcement is expected to bring relief to citizens and contribute to a safer and more enjoyable Basant celebration. Authorities and the power utility are working in coordination to ensure that the traditional kite-flying festival is observed without disruption, combining both safety measures and uninterrupted electricity services.
