[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]The Election Commission of Pakistan has postponed the Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) request for the allocation of reserved seats in the national and provincial assemblies. This decision, which delays the issuance of notification for 23 reserved seats, has become a source of disagreement between the current authorities and President Dr. Arif Alvi.
Sahibzada Hamid Raza, a leader of the Sunni Ittehad Council, along with representatives from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) including Barrister Gohar Khan and Babar Awan, as well as members from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) such as Capt (retd) Safdar, Attaullah Tarar, and Azam Nazeer Tarar, appeared at the Election Commission’s office in Islamabad.

President Alvi, a member of Imran Khan’s PTI, rejected the summary for summoning a National Assembly session. In response, a five-member bench of the Election Commission held an open hearing on the application, having previously issued a notice to the Sunni Ittehad Council. The party, which now has a significant number of independent candidates supported by Imran Khan’s party after the general polls, has sought the allocation of reserved seats.
In a related development, a petition was filed last week to ‘restrain SIC from being treated as a parliamentary party.’ This petition, along with other related petitions, is scheduled for a hearing on Tuesday. The delay in addressing the Sunni Ittehad Council’s plea for reserved seats adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing political dynamics in Pakistan.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
