Security Risks Cited for the Drone Ban
The district magistrate outlined that the ban was implemented as a precautionary measure to maintain public order and protect sensitive installations in the region.
“In view of prevailing regional enmity and potential threats to public safety, the use of drones has been declared a serious security concern,” stated the official order, citing the rising tensions in the region.
Legal Repercussions for Violators
The notification emphasized that unauthorized drone activity would be treated as a serious violation. Individuals found in violation of the ban will face strict legal action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which addresses disobedience to public orders.
“Ensuring the security of the public and key infrastructure is our top priority. The illegal use of drones will not be tolerated and will now be considered a serious crime,” the district magistrate warned.
Context of Regional Tensions
The drone ban comes amid heightened regional tensions, with security concerns becoming increasingly relevant in Swat due to escalating rivalries and potential threats in the region. Authorities have stressed the need to preemptively address these risks to ensure the safety of both civilians and critical infrastructure
The ban will be in effect for 30 days, but it remains to be seen whether it will be extended if security conditions warrant further action.
