US Ambassador Donald Blome reportedly surprised everyone with an unconfirmed meeting with Imran Khan, the former prime minister and Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), in Adiala Jail. Imran Khan is currently detained on judicial remand in the cipher case. The meeting hasn’t been officially acknowledged by the US embassy, but it coincides with Ambassador Blome’s discussions with various political leaders in anticipation of the general elections in Pakistan.
US Embassy spokesperson Jonathan Lalley confirmed the meetings with political leaders in a statement. He mentioned Ambassador Blome’s engagements in Multan and Lahore, where discussions revolved around the significance of fair elections, the right of the Pakistani people to choose their leaders, and the strengths of the US-Pakistan trade relationship. Lalley also highlighted talks about the development of the US-Pakistan ‘Green Alliance’ framework.

Despite the lack of official information about the Blome-Imran meeting from the embassy, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller refrained from commenting during a routine press briefing, emphasizing the embassy’s role in addressing such matters.
While reports of the meeting circulated, Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, denied any such encounter between Imran Khan and US officials in jail.
