Shooting At Manhattan Skyscraper Kills 5 Including The Gunman

A tragic shooting occurred in a Manhattan skyscraper on Monday evening, killing five people including the gunman. The incident took place at a building on Park Avenue, which houses the NFL headquarters and offices of major financial companies.

The suspect, Shane Tamura, a 27-year-old from Las Vegas, was armed with an assault-style rifle. New York City officials said Tamura shot four people before taking his own life. One of the victims was a New York Police Department officer, Didarul Islam, who was praised as a hero by Mayor Eric Adams.

The shooting began during rush hour in the lobby of the Park Avenue tower. The gunman then took an elevator to the 33rd floor, where more victims were shot. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the attack ended when the gunman fatally shot himself.

The other three victims included two men and a woman, while another man was seriously injured and hospitalized. Officials have not released details about the other victims.

Authorities described the shooter as having a history of mental illness. He had recently traveled cross-country to Manhattan. Investigators believe he acted alone, and no clear motive has been identified.

The Manhattan shooting caused panic among nearby workers and residents. Some described seeing heavy police presence and chaos around the building. Despite the incident, many said they still feel safe due to the quick police response.

The FBI joined local authorities in investigating the shooting. The attack has raised concerns about safety in busy urban centers like Manhattan.
