Deadline for Vehicle Emission Testing and M-Tag Extended

The Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) has announced a one-week extension for the completion of vehicle emission testing and M-Tag installation, according to a report by 24NewsHD on Saturday.

This extension applies to operators of inter-city, inter-district, and inter-provincial transport services, who now have an additional seven days to comply with the mandatory requirements. The ITA emphasized that timely adherence is crucial to avoid any disruptions in operations.

Authorities have issued a clear warning that failure to complete the emission testing and M-Tag installation within the extended timeframe could lead to the cancellation of the bus stand’s No Objection Certificate (NOC). This measure underscores the government’s focus on enforcing environmental standards and ensuring that all public transport vehicles meet legal and safety regulations.

In line with these directives, the ITA has instructed all bus terminals to submit detailed inspection and M-Tag reports on a daily basis. Officials highlighted that strict legal action will be taken against any transport operators found violating these rules, signaling a zero-tolerance approach to non-compliance.

The deadline extension is intended to provide transport operators with sufficient time to arrange for the necessary inspections and installations, while also maintaining the government’s commitment to reducing vehicle emissions and promoting road safety.

By enforcing these measures, the ITA aims to improve monitoring of public transport vehicles, ensure compliance with environmental standards, and safeguard commuters’ interests. Transport operators are advised to act promptly and complete all required procedures within the new timeframe to avoid penalties or operational restrictions.

The authority’s move reflects a balance between regulatory enforcement and giving operators additional time to meet compliance obligations, ensuring that public transport in Islamabad remains safe, environmentally responsible, and fully regulated.
