Japan Airlines (JAL) announced on Thursday that it experienced a cyberattack, resulting in delays to several domestic and international flights.
The attack began at 7:24 a.m. (2224 GMT), disrupting both internal and external systems. To address the issue, JAL temporarily shut down a problematic router causing system malfunctions and suspended ticket sales for flights departing that day.

Japan’s other major airline, ANA Holdings, reported no signs of cyberattacks affecting its systems, according to a company spokesperson.
This incident comes just days after American Airlines faced a significant disruption on Christmas Eve. A technical glitch involving network hardware led to the temporary grounding of all flights for an hour, affecting thousands of travelers.
Cyberattacks and technical failures highlight growing vulnerabilities in the aviation industry’s reliance on digital infrastructure.
