Karachi Customs Seizes Millions Worth of Illegal Mobile Phones

Karachi Customs officials recovered 803 smuggled mobile phones worth Rs. 62 million during an intelligence-based operation on Wednesday. The seizure took place after a Mazda truck was stopped and thoroughly searched.

The driver and his helper were taken into custody. Authorities said legal action has been initiated under relevant laws against the suspects.

Officials noted that the intercepted Mazda truck itself is valued at around Rs. 25 million. Combined with the mobile phones, the total value of the seizure reaches approximately Rs. 87 million.

The operation highlights the Customs department’s ongoing commitment to combating smuggling and curbing illicit trade across the country. Officials said intelligence-driven efforts are key to identifying illegal imports and preventing revenue loss.

Further investigations are underway to uncover the smuggling network involved in this case. Authorities are working to trace other individuals and channels participating in the illegal mobile phone trade.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) praised the Karachi Customs team for the successful operation, emphasizing that such actions protect lawful businesses and ensure compliance with trade regulations.

Customs officials also urged citizens and businesses to follow legal import procedures. They encouraged the public to report any suspicious activity related to smuggling to help authorities take timely action.

This latest seizure demonstrates the effectiveness of modern surveillance, intelligence sharing, and enforcement measures by Customs authorities. By targeting high-value smuggling operations, the department aims to reduce illegal trade and secure government revenue.

Officials said similar operations will continue across major trade and transit points to strengthen border control and enforcement. They reaffirmed their commitment to keeping Pakistan’s markets safe from illicit goods.
