A District and Sessions Court in Islamabad has issued an arrest warrant for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. The order came after he failed to appear in court for the liquor and arms recovery case.
The case, registered at Bhara Kahu police station, has been pending for several months. On Wednesday, Judicial Magistrate Mubashir Hassan Chishti directed authorities to arrest Gandapur and produce him before the court on September 17.
The decision followed the absence of both Gandapur and his legal team during the hearing. The magistrate noted that if any lawyer or representative had appeared to request a new date, the court would have considered it. In their complete absence, the warrant became unavoidable.
Shortly after the order, Gandapur’s lawyer, Raja Zahoor-ul-Hassan, appeared and sought suspension of the warrant. He argued that extensive media coverage of the arrest order had already harmed his client’s reputation. However, the magistrate rejected the plea, making it clear that the warrant would only be withdrawn once Gandapur personally appeared in court.
This is not the first time the court has taken such action. In July, the District and Sessions Court had already issued an arrest warrant in the same case, stressing the need for Gandapur’s presence. Despite repeated notices, the court’s directions have not yet been followed.
Law enforcement authorities have now been instructed to ensure compliance with the latest order. Gandapur must appear on September 17, 2025, when the case will resume.
The liquor and arms recovery case has drawn considerable attention due to Gandapur’s role as the sitting Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The court’s repeated actions highlight the seriousness of the proceedings and the continued insistence on his presence.
