Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the agricultural tubewell solarisation project, aiming to convert 8,000 tube wells across Punjab to solar energy in the first phase.
Farmers were selected through a lottery system, with Muhammad Nawaz from Attock being the first winner. CM Maryam also reviewed the list of successful farmers from Narowal district.

The solarisation will save farmers over Rs10,000 daily and Rs325,000 monthly. The government offers subsidies of Rs500,000 for 10 kW, Rs750,000 for 15 kW, and Rs1 million for 20 kW systems. Farmers can choose local vendors for installation.
Of the 530,000 applicants, 385,000 were eligible, with 87% of diesel and 13% of electric tubewells set for solar conversion. The project, set to be completed by June, aims to lower farming costs and drive agricultural progress, complementing initiatives like the Kisan Card and mechanization efforts.
