Balochistan Chief Minister CM Bugti has clarified that there was no marital relationship between the two victims in the Quetta honour killing case. The clarification came during a press conference held in Quetta on Monday.
According to CM Bugti, both victims were already parents and not recently married, as wrongly claimed on social media. He added that the man had five or six children and the woman was also a mother of five.
The honour killing took place in Sanjeedi Degari, a suburb of Quetta. A video showing the brutal incident recently went viral, sparking national outrage. CM Bugti called the case a “test” for his government and assured full legal action against those involved.
So far, police have arrested 11 suspects. Raids are continuing to catch more individuals linked to the crime. “Everyone involved will be brought before the court and punished,” said CM Bugti.
He also rejected the social media narrative that described the victims as a newly married couple. The chief minister stated that the government had already acted on the case before the video appeared online.
He confirmed the suspension of a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for negligence. Further disciplinary actions are expected against officials who failed in their duties.
Addressing the role of tribal systems, CM Bugti stressed that no one is above the law. He warned against misuse of jirgas and affirmed the government’s commitment to enforcing the Constitution.
In addition, CM Bugti shared that security forces killed ten militants in a recent operation. He said the law and order situation in Balochistan is improving.
He urged the public to stay calm and trust that justice will be done. “The state stands with the oppressed,” said CM Bugti.
