CJP Afridi Meets Finance Minister, Discusses Tax-Related Cases

Islamabad: The Finance Minister of Pakistan, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, held a meeting with Chief Justice Yahya Afridi at the Supreme Court today. The meeting focused on efforts to improve the justice system and speed up tax-related case handling.

The Chief Justice informed the Finance Minister about the Supreme Court’s initiatives to modernize courts. These include better categorization of tax cases and the use of technology to enhance service delivery.

A major topic discussed was the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism. The Supreme Court has introduced ADR to resolve tax disputes faster. The Chief Justice emphasized that the Finance Minister’s support is crucial for its success.

Additionally, the Chief Justice highlighted ongoing training programs at the Judicial Academy. These programs are for judicial officers and members of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). There are plans to extend training to the Competition Commission of Pakistan soon.

The Finance Minister appreciated the judiciary’s reform plans and pledged continued government support. He assured that necessary resources will be provided to help judicial development projects succeed.

Both the Finance Minister and the Chief Justice agreed on the importance of strong cooperation between the judiciary and the executive branch. They said such collaboration is essential to uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of citizens.

This meeting marks a positive step toward enhancing Pakistan’s legal framework and improving the resolution process for tax disputes.
