Chinese researchers have set a new global speed record with a Maglev Train, accelerating it to 700 kilometers per hour in just two seconds. The speed is so fast that it is almost impossible to see with the naked eye.
The experiment was carried out on December 25 by scientists at China’s National University of Defense Technology. The train, weighing nearly one ton, ran on a specially designed 400-meter-long track.
During the trial, the Maglev Train reached its record-breaking speed within moments and was safely brought to a stop. Researchers described it as the fastest superconducting electric Maglev Train ever developed. The project took over 10 years of continuous work by a team of engineers.
Earlier in January, the same train had reached 648 kilometers per hour on the same track. Surpassing 700 km/h now makes it the fastest Maglev Train in the world.
A key feature of Maglev Trains is that they do not make physical contact with the track. A video of the experiment shows the train moving at incredible speed, leaving behind a faint mist. Powerful magnets lift the train and propel it forward, eliminating almost all friction.
Scientists said the technology has potential beyond trains. It could be used to launch rockets or, in the future, transport passengers between cities in just a few minutes. The innovation could dramatically reduce travel times if adapted for commercial use.
Experts said this breakthrough highlights China’s leadership in high-speed magnetic levitation technology. They added that Maglev Trains could transform the future of transportation worldwide.
