In Beijing, China, its defense minister Li Shangfu has been relieved of his duties and hasn’t been seen in public since late August. State media confirmed this action, revealing that President Xi Jinping signed a decree to dismiss Li from his role as defense minister on Tuesday. Furthermore, he has been stripped of his other political roles, including his positions as a state councilor and as a member of the Central Military Commission.
It’s important to note that the position of state councilor holds more seniority than other ministers in the Chinese cabinet, with a total of five state councilors in the cabinet. The reason behind the removal of the defense minister has not been disclosed by Chinese media.
