The Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) was observed with solemnity across Pakistan. Numerous processions and majalis were held to honor the martyrs of Karbala. The events saw large public participation and heightened security.
In Punjab, authorities deployed 37,000 police personnel to manage 644 gatherings and 392 processions. Lahore had the highest deployment with 12,000 officers securing 44 gatherings and 14 processions. Security measures included 926 walk-through gates, 6,753 metal detectors, and monitoring through Safe City cameras.
Quetta hosted a significant procession led by the Balochistan Shia Conference. Over 2,000 police officers ensured safety along sealed routes equipped with CCTV coverage.
In Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, foolproof security arrangements were made. Law enforcement was on high alert, and water and medical camps were set up for attendees.
Hyderabad’s central procession began at Karbala Dadan Shah and ended at Qadam Gah Mola Ali. Roads were barricaded and closely monitored by over 100 cameras.
Sialkot and Sukkur observed traditional procession routes, with large crowds taking part in the commemorations. Rawalpindi saw the deployment of police sniper shooters on rooftops to maintain order.
In Karachi, the Sindh Governor and Chief Minister issued messages highlighting the Chehlum’s importance as a symbol of sacrifice and resistance against oppression.
Multan hosted nine processions with more than 1,000 police personnel on duty. Markets along the routes were closed to facilitate the smooth conduct of events.
Overall, the Chehlum was marked with respect and discipline throughout the country. Security forces worked diligently to ensure a peaceful and secure environment during these religious observances.
