The Prime Minister’s Office has requested further information from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) about a Rs. 3 billion interest-free loan proposal for renovating the Jinnah Convention Centre (JCC) ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.

CDA initiated the renovation using an emergency clause, skipping the standard competitive bidding. The refurbished JCC was handed over to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in time for the October 15-16 SCO summit.

The renovation involved upgrading the main hall, committee rooms, corridors, and installing new restroom facilities. Other improvements included flooring, painting, glasswork, furniture, and carpeting. A CDA official mentioned that the work was completed to international standards, preparing the venue for future events.

The overall cost is still pending, but the Rs. 3 billion loan request covers civil, electrical, and related repairs. The Prime Minister’s Office has asked for clarification on the spending plan and previous loan details while suggesting public-private partnerships as an alternative to reduce public spending.
