CDA Announces Two New Major Road Development Projects In Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced two new major road projects to improve Islamabad’s infrastructure and traffic flow. The new projects include the complete renovation of the Islamabad Expressway service road and the construction of a new link road connecting Margalla Road to the city’s boundary, where it will join a proposed route to Rawalpindi.

According to CDA officials, the planning and revenue departments are still finalizing the land acquisition process for the new connecting road. Once completed, the road will improve connectivity between Islamabad and Rawalpindi and ease congestion in key areas.

The Islamabad Expressway service road, which has been in poor condition for years, is also set for a major overhaul. The damaged stretch between Sohan and Koral is riddled with potholes and rutting, causing daily problems for commuters. CDA aims to address these issues under its ongoing development plan.

Progress on T-Chowk Flyover
CDA also shared updates on other key infrastructure projects. Work on the T-Chowk flyover is moving forward steadily, with 46 percent of construction already complete. The Rs. 1.4 billion project, located at the intersection of GT Road and the Expressway, is designed to ensure a smoother flow of traffic coming from Lahore.

The three-lane flyover, spanning 1.1 kilometers, is expected to be completed within 150 days. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the project last month.

Future Road Development Plans
Officials confirmed that the Shaheen Chowk project has been awarded and will be inaugurated soon. In addition, CDA plans to build an underpass at Khyaban-i-Iqbal (Margalla Road) intersecting 9th Avenue. The underpass will help reduce congestion in an area often blocked by heavy traffic from nearby government offices and educational institutions.
