Canada is reasserting its commitment to maintaining an accessible and fair study permit application process for international students, including those from Pakistan.
In 2018, Canada introduced the Student Direct Stream (SDS) to expedite study permit applications for students from certain countries, including Pakistan, India, China, and Nigeria. The SDS program aimed to provide faster processing times for eligible students, making it easier for them to pursue post-secondary education in Canada.

However, in an effort to reinforce program integrity and ensure equitable treatment for all applicants, Canada has announced the termination of the SDS and the Nigeria Student Express (NSE) programs, effective immediately. This change affects all participating countries, including Pakistan.
Going forward, students from Pakistan and other nations are encouraged to apply through the regular study permit stream. This stream continues to recognize Guaranteed Investment Certificates (GICs) as valid proof of financial support, ensuring that students meet the required financial criteria.
Despite ending the SDS and NSE programs, Canada remains committed to welcoming students from around the globe, offering them an inclusive and diverse academic environment.
