Brothers Murder Father for Pressuring Them to Focus on Studies

Two Brothers Arrested for Murdering Father Over Study Pressure in Karachi

Karachi: In a shocking incident, two brothers were arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of murdering their father, allegedly due to pressure over education and work responsibilities.

According to Jauharabad SHO Rashid Rehman, the suspects were stopped during a routine police patrol at around 3:45 a.m. in Block-15 of F.B Area. The brothers, riding a motorcycle and carrying a suspicious-looking bag, were searched by police—leading to the discovery of a man’s body inside. The victim was later identified as 60-year-old Khawar Anjum, the father of the accused.

The suspects, Mohammed Ibrahim (24) and Afzal (21), were immediately taken into custody. During initial interrogation, they allegedly confessed to planning the murder nearly two weeks prior. The motive, police say, stemmed from their father’s insistence on them continuing their education and returning to manage the family’s farmland in Mirpurkhas, which they had refused.

Investigators were told that the brothers had mixed pesticides into a cold drink served to their father after dinner. After he lost consciousness, they stabbed him multiple times, placed his body in a sack, and attempted to dispose of it when they were intercepted by police.

The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem examination. According to Police Surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed, the victim had sustained multiple stab wounds, and the cause of death was excessive bleeding. A rope found around the neck also suggests possible strangulation.

SSP Central Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi confirmed that CCTV footage shows three individuals involved in the attempted disposal of the body. One suspect is seen pushing the motorcycle with the body-laden sack, another is assisting with the load, while a third is captured opening the gate of a seminary from which the trio emerged.

The case is currently under further investigation.
