Blast Near Peshawar Public School Injures Three Children

On Tuesday morning, an improvised explosive device (IED) blast on Warsak Road in Peshawar left three children injured, as confirmed by rescue and police officials.

The incident occurred near Babu Garhi Chowk within the jurisdiction of the Machini Gate police station a little after 9 am, according to Warsak Road Superintendent of Police Arshad Khan.

Prompt response from police and rescue teams led to the injured children being swiftly transferred to a private hospital. The blast, caused by four kilograms of explosives planted on the roadside, prompted the cordoning off of the area, with further investigations underway.

Peshawar Lady Reading Hospital’s spokesperson, Asim Khan, reported that two of the children were in critical condition, all of them falling within the age range of seven to ten years and none wearing school uniforms.

Earlier, Bilal Ahmed Faizi, the spokesperson for Rescue 1122, mentioned that the blast’s intensity shattered windows of a nearby building and windshields of two Suzuki vans.

The surge in terrorist activities in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, has been notable in recent months, following the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s termination of its ceasefire with the government in November the previous year. In the last month, a blast targeting police in Dera Ismail Khan resulted in five fatalities and over 20 injuries.

According to data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), the country witnessed a 34% increase in anti-state violence in the previous month. KP emerged as the most affected province, with 51 attacks causing 54 fatalities and 81 injuries, while Balochistan recorded nine attacks resulting in 18 fatalities, including 15 security forces personnel and three civilians.
