Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said India has provided no evidence linking Pakistan to the Pahalgam attack.
Speaking in an interview with Indian journalist Karan Thapar, he stated that Pakistan’s hands were clean. He said Pakistan had even offered to conduct a transparent probe into the Pahalgam attack.
Bilawal questioned why no names or identities of the attackers were made public if they were truly Pakistani nationals.
The Pahalgam attack, which resulted in several deaths, has raised tensions between the two countries. However, Bilawal emphasized that Pakistan has never allowed any group to use its soil to attack India.
He highlighted Pakistan’s sacrifices in the war on terror. “Over 92,000 Pakistanis have died in the fight against terrorism,” he said. “We lost more than 1,000 lives just last year.”
He added that Pakistan understands the pain caused by terrorism and has taken strong steps to counter it.
Bilawal also recalled the 2007 Samjhauta Express bombing in India, which killed 40 Pakistanis. He said justice was never served in that case.
He urged the youth of both nations to move forward and not stay stuck in the past. He expressed hope for peace and cooperation in South Asia.
On social media, Bilawal defended his choice to speak to the Indian media. He said he believes in the Indian public, especially the youth, and wants to promote understanding.
The Pahalgam attack continues to be a point of tension between India and Pakistan. Pakistan maintains that it was not involved and calls for a fair and open investigation.
Authorities in both countries have yet to agree on a joint approach to investigate the incident.
