Warner Bros. Discovery has officially confirmed that Batman 2 will start filming in spring 2026. This update comes after several delays and reassures fans waiting for the sequel.
CEO David Zaslav shared this news in a recent shareholder letter. He also outlined other DC projects coming under James Gunn’s leadership. Among them, Batman 2 is now preparing to begin production between March and May 2026.
The film’s release was originally planned for October 2025 but has been pushed back twice. The current target is 2027. Despite the delays, the main cast will return. Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as Batman. Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Colin Farrell, and Jeffrey Wright are also expected to come back.
Matt Reeves is returning as director. His dark, detective-style vision for Gotham was praised in the first film. Fans are excited to see this style continue in Batman 2.
The announcement is part of a larger DC roadmap. Warner Bros. Discovery is also developing other projects like Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Clayface. A new Wonder Woman film is in progress, but the release date is still unknown.
Meanwhile, the world of Batman continues to grow. The spin-off series The Penguin, starring Colin Farrell, will connect directly to Batman 2. Reeves has hinted at a separate “Batverse” universe alongside James Gunn’s main DC Universe.
Filming in spring 2026 allows enough time for post-production before the 2027 release. Fans can expect more details on the cast and plot by late 2025 or early 2026.
For now, the wait is over. Batman 2 is officially moving forward.
