An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad has granted a bail extension to Bushra Bibi, Omar Ayub, and several other political figures. The extension relates to cases filed over the November 26 protest and a demonstration held outside the Supreme Court.
Judge Abul Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain presided over the hearing. Senior party leaders, including Sher Afzal Marwat and former AJK prime minister Abdul Qayyum Niazi, appeared before the court.
Applications requesting exemption from personal attendance were submitted for Omar Ayub, Zartaj Gul, and others. The ATC accepted these requests and ordered police not to arrest those named until November 13.
The court noted that more than 246 applications for bail extension from PTI leaders are under review. It directed all parties to present detailed arguments during the next hearing to move proceedings forward.
The cases against the PTI leaders are registered in multiple police stations, including Ramna, Sangjani, and Tarnol. These cases are tied to protests and demonstrations held last year, which led to a series of legal actions against party members.
The bail extension provides temporary relief to the leaders, ensuring they will not be arrested before the next hearing. However, the court emphasized that arguments from all sides must be heard before reaching a final decision.
This development highlights the ongoing legal challenges faced by several PTI leaders. With hundreds of cases and petitions still pending, the ATC’s rulings remain significant in shaping the political and legal landscape.
