Pakistan’s squash player Asim Khan has qualified for the World Squash Championship after winning the Asian Qualifier event held in Hong Kong. The tournament took place from April 1 to April 4, 2026, featuring top players from across the region.
Asim Khan secured his qualification by winning the final match against Malaysia’s Joachim Chua. The match was closely contested and ended with a 3–2 scoreline. Despite a slow start, Asim Khan showed strong determination and made a comeback to win the match.
The final match was intense from the beginning. The game scores were 3–11, 11–13, 11–9, 11–3, and 10–12. Asim Khan lost the first two games but remained focused. He then won the next two games and pushed the match to a deciding fifth game. His performance under pressure proved crucial in securing victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Asim Khan also faced tough challenges. He won a five-game match in the quarterfinal round. He followed this with another 3–2 win in the semifinal. These victories highlighted his consistency and fighting spirit throughout the competition.
Asim Khan, whose full name is Muhammad Asim Khan, is a right-handed player from Lahore. He achieved his career-best ranking of No. 53 in October 2022. Currently, he remains among the top 100 squash players in the world.
In September 2024, Asim Khan won his first PSA World Tour title at the Charlottesville Open. This achievement made him the first Pakistani in nearly 20 years to win a PSA title. It marked an important milestone in his professional career.
