Ashura Processions Commence Across the Country”

Mourning processions are taking place in various cities and towns across all four provinces, with strict security measures in place. Mobile phone and internet services have been affected in sensitive areas.

The provincial authorities have sought assistance from the Frontier Corps (FC) and paramilitary Rangers, who are deployed at different points along with provincial and district police personnel.

The processions will conclude at specific locations for Shaam-e-Ghariban, where religious scholars and preachers will recall the events of Karbala and the teachings of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and other martyrs of the tragedy.

In Lahore, the main Zuljinnah procession began from Nisar Haveli, Mochi Gate, on Saturday morning. It will follow its traditional route, passing through Kashmiri Bazaar, Masjid Wazir Khan, Rang Mahal, Paniwala Talab, Bazaar Hakiman, Taksali, and Bhatti Gate.

In Karachi, the central procession began from Nishtar Park, with mourners assembling as early as 8 am. Allama Shehanshah Hussain Naqvi addressed the gathering before the march commenced, and it is scheduled to conclude at Imambargah Hussainia Iranian. Provisions like water, tabarruk, and niyaz have been made available along the procession route to facilitate mourners.

In Quetta, the central procession started from Nasirabad Imambargah, led by Balochistan Shia Conference President Jawad Rafi. The mourners are expected to pass through various locations before culminating at Mominabad Imambargah. Security check posts have been set up at entry points to the 36 mourning processions taking place in the city.

In Gilgit, the main procession began from Central Imamia Mosque and will return to the same place after following traditional routes. Mourners are expected to offer Zuhr prayers at Captain Zameer Abbas Chowk, with night majalis organized at various Imambargahs.

In Peshawar, the police have been tasked with sealing the routes of the mourning processions in all districts to be passed by the mourners. Central and sub-control rooms have been set up to closely monitor the processions, and live monitoring through cameras, special lighting, and generators have been arranged along designated routes after consultation with the Shia community.

Both Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Arif Alvi issued statements in remembrance of Karbala, highlighting the lessons of faith, righteousness, justice, loyalty, and support for truth demonstrated by the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also took to Twitter to pay tribute to the martyrs of Karbala.
