Pakistan’s Olympic javelin champion Arshad Nadeem has been awarded the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Sports Award in the Global Breakthrough Athlete category. The honor was presented at the World Sports Summit held in Dubai.
Arshad Nadeem earned the award for his historic performance at the Paris Olympics, where he threw 92.97 meters to win the gold medal. This achievement set both an Olympic and world record, breaking the 16-year-old record previously held by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen. His victory also marked Pakistan’s first-ever Olympic gold medal in javelin throw.
Speaking after receiving the award, Arshad Nadeem said the recognition was a proud moment for him and Pakistan. He added that international awards motivate young athletes and help raise awareness of javelin throw in the country.
Looking ahead, Nadeem shared his goals of winning gold medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games. He said the Dubai award has strengthened his confidence and inspired him to aim higher in upcoming competitions.
To prepare for these events, Arshad Nadeem will begin formal training in January. He emphasized that his focus is on winning gold medals rather than just participating, reflecting his strong competitive mindset.
Established in 2008, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Sports Award recognizes exceptional sporting achievements and contributions worldwide. This year, Nadeem was the only Pakistani athlete represented at the summit, which brought together key figures from the global sports community.
