Arrest Warrants Issued for Aleema Khan, 50 Top PTI Leaders

ISLAMABAD – An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for 50 prominent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, including Aleema Khan, the sister of PTI founder Imran Khan.

The warrants were issued by Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain in connection with a case filed at the Karachi Company police station. The case is linked to protests that occurred in 2024.

Those named in the warrants include senior PTI figures such as Sheikh Waqas Akram, Hammad Azhar, Kanwal Shauzab, Shahid Khattak, Shandana Gulzar, and Sher Afzal Marwat.

Other PTI leaders listed are former President Dr. Arif Alvi, Simabia Tahir, Mashal Yousafzai, Shibli Faraz, Faisal Javed, and Abdul Qayyum Niazi. Also named are Nadia Khattak, Umar Tanveer Butt, Salman Akram Raja, and Rauf Hassan.

Notable figures like Murad Saeed, Zulfi Bukhari, Raja Basharat, Ahmad Khan Niazi, and Khadija Shah are also included. The warrants extend to Umar Amin Gandapur, Zartaj Gul, Shahram Tarakai, and Azam Swati, among others.

This move follows a series of legal actions targeting PTI leadership. The issuance of arrest warrants issued PTI leaders adds pressure on the party, already facing internal challenges and legal battles.

Separately, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has disqualified three PTI lawmakers after their convictions in May 9-related cases. These include Senator Ejaz Chaudhry, Malik Ahmad Bhachar, and Ahmed Chattha. Their seats have also been declared vacant.

The Anti-Terrorism Courts in Lahore and Sargodha sentenced them to 10 years in prison each.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has raised concerns about the potential disqualification of 39 additional PTI parliamentarians connected to the May 9 incidents.

This latest development signals intensified legal scrutiny of the PTI leadership amid ongoing political unrest in the country.
