American Woman Disrupts Karachi Airport After Failed Attempt to Marry Pakistani Teen

An American woman, O’Neija Andrew Robbins, caused a scene at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport on Wednesday after refusing to board her return flight. This incident followed her failed attempt to marry a Pakistani teenager, Nidal Memon, whom she had met online. Robbins had arrived in Karachi on October 11, 2024, to be with 19-year-old Memon, but the relationship faced significant opposition from his family, resulting in a fallout.

Reports indicate that Robbins resisted immigration clearance and declined to board her Qatar Airways flight, causing a delay. Security personnel were called to escort her to the departure lounge, but her refusal led to a 36-minute flight delay. Authorities had arranged for her return to the United States and contacted the U.S. Consulate in Karachi, but received no response. Despite efforts to facilitate her departure, Robbins continued to resist leaving.

The situation began when Memon, a resident of Garden West in Karachi, struck up an online relationship with Robbins, a married woman from the U.S. The relationship quickly escalated, and Memon promised Robbins they would marry once she arrived in Pakistan. However, upon her arrival, Memon failed to meet her at the airport. The 19-year-old revealed that his family disapproved of the relationship, leading him to abandon Robbins in Karachi without support.

Stranded and devastated, Robbins spent a week at the airport, trying to find a way back home. Fortunately, the Sindh government and the JDC Foundation stepped in to assist her, purchasing a return ticket and covering her medical expenses. Despite the ordeal, Robbins was eventually able to return to her family.
