Iqbal claimed in his letter to Cabinet Secretary Amir Ashraf Khawaja that he had received three gifts from Toshakhana: a Rolex gents’ watch, a Rolex ladies’ watch, and a carpet.
According to the letter, the men’s watch was valued at Rs1.550,000, the women’s watch at Rs775,000, and the carpet at Rs139,000.
In exchange, he paid Rs304,000, Rs149,000, and Rs20,000 for the products listed above. “I received the […] articles properly after paying the required money to the Cabinet Division,” he stated.
But Iqbal stated that even though he is “not obligated to make any more payment for the same”, he is paying the remaining amount to dispel “any erroneous claim or even an iota of doubt that I wrongfully benefitted from the gifts”.
The planning minister deposited a cheque for Rs1,991,000 into the national kitty.
