Hosting G-20 summit in Srinagar aims to divert world’s attention.

ISLAMABAD: Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party President Shabir Ahmed Shah said on Monday that India’s bid to host the G-20 summit in Srinagar was an attempt to divert international attention away from the genuine issue of Kashmir.

In a letter to the UN and OIC Secretaries General, Shah stated that the Modi government’s proposal to conduct the summit in the disputed region was part of a disinformation operation aimed at concealing ground realities in Kashmir and duping the international community.

According to a statement received here, Shah stated that since August 5, 2019, India has been brazenly propagating the so-called normality narrative to create an impression that “everything is fine in Kashmir”.

Defending the move as an attempt by the Modi government to whitewash its crimes against innocent civilians in Kashmir, Shah stated that India’s current government, which unilaterally and unlawfully changed Kashmir’s special status in 2019, has since been remorselessly peddling lies to promote the so-called normalcy narrative on Kashmir.

He stated that the Indian government’s motivation for holding a G-20 meeting in Srinagar is to maintain the appearance of normalcy.

The jailed leader urged the UN and OIC to take serious action, claiming that doing so would legitimise India’s illegal occupation of the internationally recognised disputed area.

Shah hoped that the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, both prestigious organisations that have always supported Kashmiris’ legitimate rights, would take effective cognizance of the situation and play a pivotal role in resolving the Kashmir dispute in order to ensure long-term peace and stability in South Asia.
