Share

Jibran Nasir, a prominent human rights activist and lawyer, came home safely on Friday, nearly 24 hours after he was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in Karachi, according to family members and police

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South Asad Raza confirmed Nasir’s safe arrival in Karachi, however he has yet to provide a statement to the police.

On the complaint of Nasir’s wife, Clifton police had previously lodged a case of kidnapping. According to SSP Raza, police detectives will soon record Nasir’s comprehensive testimony. He stated that if any person is recognised by him, the police will take action against such people.

Earlier in the day, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and other human rights organisations raised worry about the lawyer’s strange abduction.

CM Murad had ordered the Inspector General of Sindh Police (IGP) to investigate Nasir’s disappearance. The IGP was also directed to take all necessary steps to ensure the activist’s prompt recovery.

Mansha Pasha, Nasir’s wife, said she was in their car with him on Thursday when at least 15 unidentified highly armed men in various vehicles cornered them and snatched him near his home in Karachi’s DHA.

“We were returning from dinner when a white Vigo intercepted us and nearly crushed us.” “There were 15 men with pistols, and they forcibly removed my husband,” Pasha stated in her video statement.

She had begged everyone to make efforts and pray for her husband’s quick recovery.

Nasir, a former independent candidate from Karachi in the 2018 general elections, has questioned the recent governmental crackdown on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party and court processes involving persons accused of rioting.

His efforts to combat sectarianism won him a spot on Foreign Policy Magazine’s 2013 list of three outstanding Pakistanis striving to end such wars.
