A severe heatwave in Karachi has claimed 17 lives in just 36 hours

The severe heat conditions in Karachi have tragically claimed the lives of at least 17 people over the past 36 hours, with most of the deceased identified as drug addicts. The intense heat, exacerbated by the absence of a sea breeze, has created dire situations across the city. Rescue workers have been tirelessly responding to incidents in various neighborhoods, transporting bodies to morgues for further processing.

According to rescue sources, 17 bodies have been brought to the morgue within the past 36 hours, highlighting the severity of the situation. Most of the deceased appeared to be drug addicts, with their bodies found in areas such as Lyari, Clifton, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Jehanabad, Liaquatabad, Landhi, Lines Area, and Garden. In the Lines Area, Bilal, a father of three, was found dead due to severe heat. His family stated that Bilal collapsed from heat stroke and load shedding, leading to a cardiac arrest. One body was also found in the Clifton area.

Of these deaths, two occurred on Wednesday, and 49 others were severely affected by the extreme temperatures. According to the Sindh Health Department, the deceased included 54-year-old Fazal Rahman and 54-year-old Ramesh. At the Civil Hospital, 22 individuals were admitted due to heat-related issues, with two fatalities. Similarly, 22 citizens were shifted to Liaquatabad Government Hospital.
