Renowned singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is set to perform at the Pakistan Super League (PSL) team auctions on January 8. The event will be held at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, who currently serves as a judge on Pakistan Idol, will add star power to the high-profile auction.
The auction will feature the sale of two new PSL franchises. According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the organization received 12 proposals from interested investors. After a technical evaluation process, 10 bidders were approved to participate in the auction.
The approved investors come from Pakistan, the United States, Australia, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates. These shortlisted bidders will compete for ownership of the new PSL teams, marking a major expansion for the league.
Wasim Akram, the newly appointed PSL brand ambassador, will serve as the auctioneer for the event. He will oversee the bidding process and help ensure a fair and transparent auction.
Successful bidders will have the opportunity to choose their franchise locations from a list of cities, including Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, Faisalabad, Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, and Sialkot. This expansion is part of the PCB’s broader plan to promote cricket across Pakistan and reach new audiences.
Separately, the PCB is considering starting the next PSL season on March 23 instead of March 26. A final decision will be made after consultation with all franchises.
The involvement of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and other high-profile personalities reflects the growing popularity and entertainment value of the PSL. Fans can expect a glamorous event that combines cricket, music, and media attention.
