Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto on Thursday described the punishment awarded to Faiz Hameed as a “historic decision.” He spoke during a visit to Chiniot while offering condolences to local leaders.
Bilawal Bhutto said that while serving as prime minister, PTI founder Imran Khan had allegedly issued threats under the intoxication of power. He added that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had been specifically targeted. Bhutto noted that Imran Khan is now facing the consequences of his actions.
Regarding Faiz Hameed, Bilawal Bhutto emphasized that he had violated his duties while in power but retains the right to appeal the verdict. The PPP chairman said the judgment demonstrates accountability within state institutions.
On governance matters, Bilawal Bhutto stated that no decision has been taken yet regarding governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He also highlighted the ongoing economic challenges faced by the public, stressing that citizens are experiencing financial hardship.
Reflecting on the tenure of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), Bhutto noted that when the coalition assumed office, the country was near default. He praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s team for addressing the difficult economic situation. He also mentioned that some foreign investment had arrived and that the 27th Amendment successfully established a constitutional court.
Bilawal Bhutto further discussed the government’s attempt to amend the NFC Award, which was blocked, and stated that no contact has been made regarding the 28th Amendment. He pointed out that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) continues to fall short of its annual revenue targets, underlining ongoing fiscal challenges.

Bhutto concluded that accountability, economic reforms, and institutional strengthening are crucial for Pakistan’s stability. He stressed the importance of ensuring justice while addressing the public’s economic and governance concerns.
