Electricity consumers across Pakistan are set to face higher power bills after the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) approved two separate tariff adjustments.
The authority approved a monthly increase of Rs2.06 per unit under the July fuel price adjustment. The increase will affect consumers across the country.
The adjustment will also apply to K-Electric customers. The additional amount will be reflected in electricity bills issued in September 2026.
According to Nepra, the monthly adjustment will place an additional burden of around Rs33 billion on electricity consumers. The increase is linked to the fuel price adjustment for July.
Nepra has also approved another increase under the quarterly adjustment mechanism. The authority approved a rise of 52 paisas per unit for the April to June 2026 period.
The quarterly adjustment will take effect from September to November 2026. It will also apply to K-Electric consumers during the three-month period.
The quarterly increase is expected to place an additional burden of Rs12.67 billion on consumers. Nepra has sent its decision to the federal government.
With both adjustments combined, electricity prices will effectively increase by Rs2.58 per unit. Consumers are expected to see the impact in their upcoming electricity bills.
The latest increase comes at a time when households are already facing high electricity costs. Higher tariffs can significantly affect monthly household budgets, particularly for consumers with greater power usage.
Commercial and industrial consumers may also face higher operating costs due to the increase. Businesses often pass higher electricity expenses into the prices of goods and services.
The monthly adjustment is being implemented through the fuel price adjustment mechanism. This mechanism allows electricity prices to be revised based on changes in generation costs and fuel prices.
The quarterly adjustment is separate from the monthly fuel adjustment. It covers changes in electricity costs over a specific three-month period.
Both adjustments will now affect consumers during the same period. This means many electricity users could see a noticeable increase in their bills.
K-Electric consumers will also be covered by the approved adjustments. The inclusion means the impact will extend to consumers in areas served by the private power utility.
Nepra’s decision is expected to increase the financial pressure on electricity consumers. The authority regularly reviews tariff adjustments to account for changes in power generation costs.
The government will now proceed with the implementation of the approved adjustments. Consumers should therefore expect the revised charges to appear in upcoming bills.
The combined increase of Rs2.58 per unit could have a significant impact on consumers depending on their monthly electricity consumption. Higher usage will generally result in a larger additional payment.
The latest decision highlights the continuing pressure on electricity prices in Pakistan. Consumers are now likely to closely monitor future tariff adjustments and their impact on monthly bills.
