The Punjab education department has released the timetable for the upcoming annual matriculation and intermediate examinations.As per the notification, matric exams are scheduled to start on March 3, 2026, while intermediate exams will commence on May 5, 2026.
The department has also revised the admission policy for the new academic session, updated the school calendar, and introduced changes to the curriculum.The new academic year is set to begin on April 1, 2026, with free textbooks to be distributed in government schools from April 5.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has confirmed the winter vacation schedule for all educational institutions across the province. According to the latest announcement, winter holidays will run from December 23, 2025, to January 11, 2026, with classes resuming on January 13, 2026.
Authorities emphasized that the schedule applies equally to public and private schools, and no institution is permitted to modify the dates independently. The decision was made keeping in view the severe cold and to safeguard students’ health, ensuring they return refreshed for the new session.
Earlier, school timings had also been adjusted due to worsening smog, with a directive prohibiting any school from opening before 8:45 am.
